GIANT KILLER AWARD GUIDELINES TO WINNING A GIANT KILLER AWARD Guideline No. 1 - Don’t expect the members to run your ministry / department. people often say things like, ‘I have this great idea for the church’ or we should do something about………’ . its always good to ask him or her to clarify what he/she means by ‘’we’’. When people say the church should………’ , they usually mean that the pastor or departmental head should……….’. help people realize that they are the church. Guideline No. 2 – The ministry must be compatible with our church believe, values, and philosophy of ministry. Avoid starting something that is not in line with the direction the church is going. Guideline No. 3 – No fundraising is allowed but departments can contribute towards their priorities in order to achieve their goals. Leaders of each ministry should submit any major project they want to fund to the administrator for consideration in the event of planning of church fundraising/ budget. Allow people to quit or change ministries / departments gracefully - Never handcuff people into a ministry. A decision to serve in a particular ministry is not written on stone. If somebody does not enjoy or fit in a particular ministry, they should be encouraged to change to another without any shame or embarrassment. Experiencing with different ministries is the best way to discover your gifts. Trust people: delegate authority with responsibility – we allow those in the children department to decide what the class look like, biting for kids to be used etc. people respond to responsibility. They thrive and grow when you trust them. But as the head, if you treat people like incompetent babies, you will have to diaper them and feed them the rest of your life. When you give authority with responsibility, you will be amazed at the creativity of your people. People are always as creative as the structure allows them to be. Expect the best of your people and trust them with ministry. You bring out the best in people by giving them a Challenge, giving them Control and giving them the Credit. We have to turn/retain ACF Ndenderu church in to purpose driven church rather than personality driven. Provide the necessary support - make sure all your members are well assisted to meet with departmental goals Provide Communication Support - develop ways to stay in touch with your team ( also to ensure all departmental heads and their assistance forward their mobile numbers to the administrator. Departmental heads to forward their reports to the administrator one week prior to the SALT Meeting Provide Internal Promotional Support – each departmental head and their assistance will receive a name tag (Budge with photo) so members can see who’s involved in what ministry/department To be holding a departmental fair at least twice a year. It’s the work of every ministry / department to advertise its focus, programmes and events (news letter). We will also create a space for advert of one department each week on a weekly church brochure. we will also create a space each week to give testimony and tell how a particular ministry/ department has made a difference in our weekly brochure. Provide moral support – continually express appreciation in public and personal ways to those who serve in our departments even if it means mentioning in our weekly brochure the outstanding member of the week (create a column of appreciation in our weekly brochure). Plan special events such as appreciation banquets or departmental retreats to reward our core group of active members through the administrator’s office. Pastor will be presenting a ‘GIANT KILLER’ award for outstanding department each month. Renew the vision regulary – We always keep the vision of your ministry / department before our people. We communicate the importance of our ministry, when we recruit to the ministry and always emphasize the eternal significance of ministering in Jesus name. Never use guilt or pressure to motivate people for ministry. Its vision that motivates; guilt and pressure only discourage people. Help people see that there’s no greater cause than the Kingdom of God..
